"Royal Parks say no evidence to back Nigel Farage’s claim that migrants are eating their swans" - Yes, someone had to come out and refute this.
He claimed this morning on LBC immigrants are catching, killing and eating swans in Royal Parks.
"If I said to you that swans were being eaten in royal parks and carps were being taken out of ponds and eaten in this country from people with different cultures. Would you agree that is happening?"
Asked who was doing this, Farage said “people who come from countries where it’s quite acceptable to do so”. Asked if he meant eastern Europeans, he replied: “So I believe.” [Post edited 24 Sep 13:03]

You'd need someone to point out that scientists being wrong is how science works. Scientists trying to prove other scientists wrong is how we gain new knowledge and refine existing ideas.
And it is very, very rare that they are wrong about the big ideas, whether that's evolution, climate change, vaccines, etc. You could only point to relativity as being the major one in modern times.
What you would need is someone brave enough to stand up to that argument and really dig into what they are saying and how ridiculous the statement is, because it boils down to "some scientists are wrong, therefore all science is wrong", which is very obviously nonsense.
It's the same way they go about climate change denial, and yet nobody really digs into them and asks them to explain what they think is going on. |
I guess the most straightforward question/counter to be offered to Farage and the like when they make statements like this is 'ok, present your peer-reviewed scientific paper that sets out your evidence'.
Hahaha who am I kidding...never gonna happen. And by that I mean, never gonna be able to present such a paper, and never gonna be challenged robustly by supposedly professional journalists like that anyway, so the first point is moot. |  | | |
