Memories of my Portman Road matches 09:53 - Oct 1 with 516 views | ClippingsFromFH | Despite not being a fan of the club, I have attended an Ipswich game on two occasions. The first was when my aunt took me to see Ipswich beat Crystal Palace, which upon research must have been 2011. Postman Road was imposing as I was a fairly sensitive youth, made all the moreso by being high up in the stands (or so it felt to my young mind). It's fair to say that I did not truly appreciate the experience. In contrast, the second time I saw the Town play was when I was receiving an award at the Suffolk FAs award evening in about 2020 or 2021, when Town slaughtered Doncaster by 5 or 6 goals to nil. We have a meal in the Bobby Robson suite before the game and seeing the crowds overjoyed at the game - and finally watching a live football game after so long was such a wonderful experience. Perhaps one day I will return to have another football experience at Portman Road. Only time will tell.
Memories of my Portman Road matches on 12:22 - Oct 1 with 309 views | VanSaParody | Are you a fan of any other club? Or maybe not even a fan of football at all? I'm not from the town, but have been a fan since I was 6 after deciding whoever won the FA cup that year would be the team for me It's a rare treat for me to get to Portman Road, so when I do (usually once per season) I love seeing how the ground now looks, with all the murals & the statues, you can feel the history A UEFA Cup Final (1st leg) was played in there & on the back of the Sir Bobby Robson stand, an image shows fans holding up letters that spell out THANKS BOBBY I'm holding one of those letters, so it's even more special to me! The last time we beat "them up the road", I was there I've tried & failed since & had to endure them crowing about "16 years" since their last loss in this "old farm derby" Well, I'll be there Sunday to take in all this magic & hopefully I'll be a good omen - COYB's!

I'm not a fan of any professional club but as my stepdad is a spurs fan so I had a few visits to White Hart Lane in the early to mid 2010s and I was born in Norwich so, while I don't support the Canaries I've still been to Carrow Road a couple of times, more times than I've been to Portman Road. Only really got into Football aged 14 and have been involved administratively in local non-league football circles in Suffolk (volunteering at a club, league and Suffolk FA level). I'm a football historian by education who is perhaps the person who knows most about the development of the game in the county from 1870-1914 than anyone else living. Just a shame my degrees and expertise doesn't pay the bills, so I work in the shadow of Portman Road. I have great respect for Ramsey and Robson, as well as the Old Farm as the most underrated Derby in the country!
