If each team has two challenges per match and if there is no other VAR intervention I think I will have no objections. I will add that teams can’t challenge corners or throw ins as I think some coaches will simply use their ‘card’ to break up play.

Agree, I'm not particularly against this approach. I'd suggest that if a manager uses a card to break up play in a way which is deemed "frivolous" by the VAR official then the captain should be given a yellow or red card, akin to a professional foul to break up play (i.e. yellow normally or red if DOGSO).

The other change I'd like to see (I'd be more in favour of this than VAR challenges tbh) is that all decisions need to be made in a 30 second window. If a decision can't be overturned in 30 seconds, it clearly can't be a bad enough decision to require overturning?

It will probably be terrible, but I think it's good they're trying different things.
I agree there has to be some deterrent otherwise every manager will always appeal every late goal
