We need to be smarter 08:42 - Oct 22 with 226 viewsJack27

When a team like Charlton come to PR to put men behind the ball and hit us on the counter, we need to be smarter and not commit like we do to leave ourselves exposed. A lot went wrong last night - predominantly the attitude of our players. I’ve said all season that the 10 is a position that just doesn’t seem to work for us…and Akpom compounded that last night. Jens Cajuste, for all the talent has a tendency to not work as hard as needed in that position and just let opponents past him. We don’t need to be gung-ho to win our home games…and we need to defend much more as a team than what was shown last night.

Teams are always going to play like Charlton did. They rode their luck last night, maximised the professional fouls when we got dangerous and avoided bookings. We have lots of quality players who are not up for a fight. The manager even said we need big grafters in the summer and who did he buy... Two show ponies. Nunez and Cajuste are wonderful, luxury players, but are not the sort you want when it turns into a battle. Every team has tried to battle us at Portman Road this year and we have struggled.

Get Taylor in the middle with matisuwa and 1 show pony and maybe even play 2 up top. Change the balance of play. We are so predictable. Have a half of azon and Hirst feeding off each other flicks. Look what will happen to the space on the flanks when we have 2 up top. I know it is en vogue to have 1 up top ... It has been for a few years. Have defenders forgotten how to handle 2 strikers? I bet they have you know. Try things KM. Our 1 trick pony system is not working.
