Knew Martin well, last saw him about 6 weeks ago, had a brief chat, seemed in good health, considering he had been struggling with Cancer for a number of years previously.
He was direct and unflinching, we would occasionally take students down to his foundation in Bristol, and he would always ask, "do you want me to talk to them?", of course you had to say 'yes', but being Martin Parr, he would come out and say "you all know you probably aren't going to be photographers don't you?"

He was right of course, getting success in being a photographer is akin to an academy footballer making it, 1 in 300.
But he was a lovely man, generous with his time, supportive and welcoming. He'll be missed. |  |

Always thought his Black and White work was his strongest, but, different strokes for different folks I suppose.
I've seen the original negatives and the contact sheets for the 'Last Resort' series, and there are some wonderful images that never made the book. | |
