It's good that the FA have been the first football association to ban heading the ball for under 12s, but if we're the only nation that does that, presumably that gives other nations a competitive advantage as their teen players will have already been developing their heading skills. Surely it is up to FIFA to demand that all affiliated nations introduce the same limits on heading the ball to ensure safety and a level playing field. Or are they too busy handing out peace prizes?
Most U12s heading skills equate to closing their eyes and waiting for the ball to hit them on the head so English football probably won’t suffer that much.
I have zero evidence for this but I suspect that most other countries concentrate on the foot work and technique of younger kids than heading practice.
Think more medical research will be conducted on this issue with UEFA probably banning U12s from heading in the near future.
