Player metrics collection at matches? 07:19 - Feb 16 with 393 viewsRIPbobby

Does anyone know about the technology used at Portman Road? Here are some key points that I am interested in:

- **Player Technology:**
- Players wear crop top devices.
- These devices likely monitor heart rate and other performance metrics. What else?

- **Cameras around the Pitch:**
- Individuals roam the pitch with cameras.
- Are they enhancing our viewing experience of "Town in Five"?
- Are they analyzing player movements?
- Are they tracking:
- The number of touches each player makes?
- The number of sprints recorded?

- **Performance Insights:**
- What exactly are these cameras doing?
- It would be interesting to know how the club understands player performance through this technology.

- **Analysis of Other Matches:**
- How does the club analyze other matches?
- Do they rely solely on a 90-minute stream controlled by the hosting club?

I’d love to hear thoughts on this, especially if someone knows exactly.

I haven't got the answers to those questions but its getting a bit over the top with all this technology etc.
It seems the more tec that comes into the game, the more the game has slowed down and is a lot more boring to watch than before,

The automated data is collected using two technologies - GPS/EPTS vests and vision-based AI tracking systems.

The vests incorporate several sensors - such as GPS, accelerometers, heart rate, etc. The vision systems use multiple high frame rate cameras around the ground to feed into AI analysis software for real-time analysis. Several organisations provide tools to perform the analysis - Town certainly use Genius Sports’ GeniusIQ for some of their analysis, as they share some of the AR clips on Town TV.

As I understand it, the FA ‘own’ the raw data feeds, and license it to the organisations who do the analysis, who then in turn sell the service to the clubs. I don’t know how ‘available’ this analysis service would be for other club’s data.

That's annoying as it seems like they have a big headstart on anybody else wanting to join the party.

The vests capture data through GPS, namely distances covered, sprint speeds, positioning, heart rate etc.

In my day the camera feeds would be used by analysts to 'code up' the game, I presume they still do but I'm not sure if its less manual now. I used to do it for a couple of different league clubs at different times when I was younger and doing some badges and coaching. Usually on a Sunday morning I would rewatch the full match in a particular software like Wyscout, code it up for various different things e.g. defensive set piece, attacking set piece, goals, every individual player involvement. So for example every time the left back was involved in the play I would hit a certain key (I always thought squad number would be sensible but it never was), this then enabled the coaches and analysts to pull and and review the relevant bits with each player the following week, the good and less good and what can be learned, which I also did. Needless to say some players were more receptive than others.

I loved using Wyscout. I'm a bit of a data nerd and enjoyed getting into all that. Appreciate its not for everyone though.
