Still buzzing from the win last night as I delve back into the Excel/Powerpoint world this morning. I made a thread saying that Saturday was the most frustrating watch of the season - I think last night might be the biggest confidence booster we’ve had in a while: 1) Delighted for the two goalscorers. Both were in “just need one to go in” territory, and both took their chances well with some clever finishes (I think they both meant to do what they did, for the record) 2) Great for the defence, and particularly Walton to keep a clean sheet after Saturday. In fact I thought we managed the game really well, nullified their threats, kept Louza quiet and bar a silly penalty, we never looked like conceding. 3) I thought the support of Hirst was great last night, even before his goal. He got a massive round of his song even when he came on the pitch and it was nice to see after all the stick he’s put up with. It’s a whole thread in itself, but it’s pretty clear that the away contingent are a lot more supportive than the home contingent, and glad that all the nonsense on social media didn’t make it to the ground. 4) Dan Neil looks like a really good bit of business. Jack Taylor mould, but just that 20% better. We should be going with him & Matusiwa going forward in my eyes. Taylor & Cajuste are more than capable deputies off the bench when we either need to see the game out or go for a winner. 5) Great to see Nunez back, he is entering undroppable territory for me. Mehmeti has been fantastic and that’s no shade on him, but it just looks better on the eye with Nunez in there, he is so creative and has an incredible pass on him. 6) Three home games and two decent away fixtures coming up. 12/15 would be a good return out of these. Overall a great evening and a good platform to go on our late season winning run. It’s firmly in our hands and just like we were at this stage in 2023/24, I’d much rather be the hunting than the hunted. | |
