Kevin Craig, a former Labour parliamentary candidate and Ipswich fan, criticised it and claimed the club had previously hesitated to allow his charity to "give thousands of pounds" to the ITFC Foundation for fear of "being political".

In a post on X, he said: "Very confused that the Board of Ipswich Town have hesitated and are still hesitating to let a local business (mine) become a regional sponsor (and give thousands of pounds to ITFC Foundation) because they are worried about 'being political, ' and then yesterday happens.

"I am afraid it makes the club look politically aligned at the worst, or naïve and disjointed at best. Sad as I feel very invested in the club and its mission and values."

Sources close to Ipswich Town claim no official invitation was made to Mr Farage to stage a photo opportunity at Portman Road.

But sources close to Reform insisted he had been invited by representatives of the club
