You look at the set up and I wonder if KM kept Ashton in a job longer than he should have.
Ashton is under a lot of pressure now and has not got KM to rely on for the footballing side of things. KM was our best asset, our most progressive asset too.
If it all starts going wrong GON will lob Mark under the bus, rest assured and that is when the tensions will kick in.
On the contrary I think. As much as I dislike certain ways Ashton has carried himself he has done many things to progress the club in the last 5 years and we are hugely better off than when he arrived. Quite how you split that from McKenna is difficult, but if GON starts blaming the back room setup and staff i think Ashton will have a lot more credit in the bank and GON will look pretty foolish.
The footballing world can see what you're getting signing up as manager of a well backed small fish newly promoted team. GON will either scrap and scrape and do okay, or he'll look very silly and be rubbish and a bit flouncey. I don't think that will reflect on how well or otherwise the club is run. Just the realities of being in our position.
