Premier League experience myth... 11:43 - Jul 7 with 542 viewsThatMuhrenCross

I keep seeing comments from Town fans saying we need "Premier League experience", as if a washed up Calum Wilson is the golden bullet to solve all our problems.

Fact is, we don't need Premier League experience at all - we need Premier League quality - and that doesn't have to just come from the Premier League itself.

We've got tonnes of Premier League experience. Most players in this squad have at least as season of Premier League football in them. The manager has a whole career of it. We know what the Premier League takes, but now we just need to ensure we're that level.

Couldn't care less if we didn't sign a single player this summer with Premier League experience. Fight me.

What we do need is Premier League ready, and that means now, next month. Previous signings have potential, Sindre Walle Egeli springs to mind, but it is players ready to compete at the highest level immediately that we are lacking.

I agree, but if they happen to be in the French league, Italian league, South America... then so be it. We have to trust out recruitment department to have identified the right characteristics for a Premier League player.

I don't disagree, it's less about experience in terms of handling certain situations, that would be more relevant in a title run in or the big crunch games under the gaze of the worlds eyes. Our season will be defined by the Saturday 3pm's against the Fulham's and Forest's of the world, ultimately we need good players.

Being proven at a level is worth something though. Signing players from overseas might potentially represent good value if they land well and hit it off, but you have to accept a higher level of risk and probably a lower hit rate than someone who has been here and done it for 5 years. Players like Xhaka and Henderson for example, not cheap, but you've got a pretty robust idea of what you'll get for your money. Needs a balance IMO, I'm all for finding value in international markets and accept they won't all work, but we need to balance it with a few tried & tested players at premier league level.

But would you not agree that experience playing in the Champions League, Europa League, French, Italian or Spanish leagues is the equivalent of playing in the Premier League?
