Sorrento Italy accomodation? 08:42 - Jul 11 with 828 viewsRIPbobby

Does anybody have any hidden gems websites for this area's hotels for next week. All the usual suspects prices are way too much. Back in the day I used to find good accomodation for really low prices close to departure date. Just can't seem to find much right now. ?

Italy for me has over the last 30 years steady increased to the point i now feel in general its the most expensive place in Europe. We stopped going to the Lakes approx 3 years ago, because it had become so expensive.

I was on holiday in Sicily 2 months ago and honestly nearly every thing was more expensive than Switzerland, where I had been on holiday a few weeks earlier.

But in terms of your question, no sorry I don't

Sicily used to be a such a hidden gem of a place 10-15 years ago. Glorious countryside, beaches, towns etc all for low cost prices. Shame that's changed.

I just can't believe I've never been to Italy. I have been all over Europe and to be honest all around the world, but never Italia. I've always wanted to go and I can get a return flight for £30. Just wanted to wander over there while all my stars are aligned - so to speak.

It sounds like you are a seasoned visitor there.

Lovely place about 25 minute walk from the centre called Villa Pane. Not sure if it’s still going, but worth a look.
Wasn’t fancy but they do brilliant food (and cookery courses if you like that sort of thing) and it used to be really reasonable.

Just checked, and the prices have gone up about 1000%!

Looks very nice. But £268 per night is massively over my budget.

Sorry about that, used to cost that for a week about 10 years ago!
Good luck finding something a bit cheaper.

Not sure seasoned is correct, more regular. Italy is a wonderful country, strongly recommend it, but it seems like so much of Europe since COVID prices have gone up massively.

Maybe they've adopted the Portugal approach of two different prices, a price for locals and a holidaymakers price, I really don't know.

I wouldn't bother mate. We went a couple of years ago, having had to cancel a trip during Covid. Whole place is an advert for the problems of over tourism, as an example Sorrento itself was so over run that in the narrow backstreets it took 10 minutes to walk 150 yds and most restaurants had queues to get a table. Very little romance about the place, everything is geared to getting whatever they can out of the cruise ship parties doing their whistle stop tours. And for the record, I do get the irony of a tourist moaning about over tourism.

Go to that part of the world frequently for work (a small market town in the middle of nowhere, not as exciting as it sounds!), we stay in Nola. Drivable to all the usual places in the Sorrento / Pompeii / Amalfi coast area.

There’s a Holiday Inn at the Vulcano Buono, or the Radisson in Nola. Both pretty functional if not lthing amazing.
