Although I agree we need 8-10 new signing to upgrade the squad, there could be some names which surprise us in the prem and exceed our expectations. 5 players below which could surprise us and. W key parts of the squad (not mentioning Davis, O’Shea, Matusiwa who are expected to be in and around it already).
Jack Clarke (25)
- 2nd go in the prem with us, great output last year coming into to his prime years now at 25. Looks more physically built now to take the prem on and be a key part of the team. Like many will be much more settled into the group and ready to go from the start with a full pre season unlike last time.
Mehmeti (25)
- Really positive when he first joined, both off the ball as well as on the ball which will be really important this season. Clearly has a lot of quality in the goals and moments he has had in the championship and like many of our players will have a desperation to grab the opportunity in the prem with both hands.
Nunez (26)
- joined us with a desperation to play in the premier league. Clearly has ability on his day if he can put it all together in a league which may suit his style more than the grind of the championship to show his quality.
Greaves (25)
- £15m defender who has all the attributes to be successful and towards the end of last season was a big part on getting over the line. Typified with his performance at Norwich away. I think a back 3 could really benefit Greaves either being the central CB or LCB and bring the ball out. A player we expect to be much more settled going into this season and a bit under the radar.
Taylor (28)
- he always steps up and outperforms expectations. Went to a high level end of last season and every chance we could be ending the season with Taylor still getting minutes in the team. Feels like he has become a big character now as many of the back to back promotion side has moved on.
Any others we are not talking about who can step up?

I think the regulars from last season will be part of the squad unless they leave.
I can see Davis, Matusiwa, O'Shea, Clarke (or Philogene if he stays) and Burns being starters. I would have no problem with Walton starting either but I think we are looking to upgrade on him. Important we get that one right if we do, though. In my mind Muric is a better keeper than Walton but because it didn't work out we would have done better if Walton had been playing instead.
Clarke: may well benefit if Philogene is leaving and become a regular starting player. If not, and we sign better or Philogene stays then it will be interesting to see if he can replicate last season off the bench in the Premier League. I am sure we all hope he can.
Mehmeti and Nunez both went off the boil last season. Both started their time at Town as if they would be important players. Can they get back to that at a higher level? I am not sure they will be given that chance. We will see.
Greaves will be an interesting one. Has the potential but needs to be as consistent as he became last season. Losing his place to Kipre appeared to be the catalyst for him playing his best football after that.
Taylor will be an important back up who we can rely on. I spent a long time wondering whether he was good enough after we signed him but he seems to have improved year on year. He will be better than he was when he made a lot of sub appearances in the Premier League before. Playing alongside better players will help him too.
I also think Walle Egeli and McAteer will be squad players. |  |
