| Bit of advice re: visit to Fortuna 10:45 - Aug 3 with 950 views | Tractor_Buck | Morning all. Me and the lad have got a weekend in Cologne at the end of August, and it's fallen nicely for the first round of the Pokal, so we're going to Viktoria v Nuremburg on the Saturday, and Fortuna v Freiburg on the Sunday. I know there's a number of people on here who've been to Fortuna so thought I would seek a bit of advice about making the best of the trip up to Dusseldorf - best places for pre-match drinks and atmosphere, that kind of thing. Thank you kindly. | | | | |

It's known as die längste Theke der Welt (the longest bar in the world) for a good reason. From the western end of Bolkerstraße, you can get the U-Bahn from Heinrich-Heine-Allee to the Merkur Spiel Arena in about 20mins using the U78.

| Bit of advice re: visit to Fortuna on 11:13 - Aug 3 with 712 views | PavlovsCat | There are plenty of bars lining the riverfront in Düsseldorf, and there’s always a summer fairground on the opposite side - for when you’ve had a few too many! Have fun! | | | |

I loved the Dusseldorf altbier and is well worth trying, there was no queuing at the bar, a guy walked round with a tray full of beers that you just bought as required. Also at the ground you buy "your cup" with your first drink and they just fill it up for you next time. Brilliant idea to keep rubbish down, also fans clean up in the ground after the match before they leave. You and your lad will love it, German football is a fantastic experience. One thing that may have changed since my visit two or three years ago was that most bars were cash only, not card.
