Do you think it’s going to be: 09:22 - Aug 9 with 799 viewsunstableblue

Away from home (not Cov, Hull, Palace..):

Lukic and Florentino/Matusiwa

At home:

New #8/Nunez and Florentino/Matusiwa

As much as Nunez was a bit loose yesterday he was gluing progressive moves together, whereas Fulham fans in the majority suggest that’s just not Lukic’s game.

We may well see Lukic and Florentino start in a deep pivot in Berlin and against Sunderland. But not sure that brings some of the link play we need.

It won’t be as simple as home/away, it will be the opposition

Yeah agreed bluefunk.

After I posted I thought it’s not just the central midfield pairing to solidify us, it’s the back three option as well. Look at the two set-ups below. One will make us very hard to break down, but is it too defensive? How do we get creative ball to what is essentially 3 forwards?

Tougher opponents:

————————Scherpen
—————OShea——Diop—-Greaves
RWB—Florentino/Matusiwa—Lukic—Davis
————Fatawu————-Maeda
——————-#9/Emerson

‘Easier’ opponents:

————————Scherpen
OShea——Diop—-Greaves——Davis
—Florentino/Matusiwa—#8/Nunez
Fatawu——Egeli/#10——Maeda
——————-#9/Emerson

I’d see us being very flexible in game tbh. I think the three CBs are first choice, plus I’d see Fatawu looks like a hybrid right winger/wingback, with Davis the same in the left. Where a solid defence is the priority, Matusiwa and Florentino play with Luiz the box to box between them, with a solo striker so we can play on the break to score. Where we fancy our chances, a more adventurous 4 2 3 1 or even a 4222, the latter getting width from the wing backs. In those formations we might sacrifice a centre back (or trust OShea to provide width). That way we have security through the centre of the pitch plus bodies to press high on transition.

We also have the option to go 3 in centre mid - Florentino - Lukic - #8, without a recognised 10. Might be best if we think the game is going to be a batter in centre mid.
