Just got home 00:15 - Aug 23 with 554 viewsPendejo

I rarely rush home after a game... visited step brother who has had major surgery, didn't taunt him over Charlton"s win & West Ham. Then visited my father at the care home, told him about Charlton winning, he's a Charlton fan ge was happy with that.

I bought my ticket weeks ago, then my wife double booked us with a BBQ. I like my grilled meat as much as anyone but c'mon this is Ipswich back in the top flight.

So after a discussion in which it was revealed that I am the worst human being on the planet, I got away a couple of hours later than normal.

Due to innumerable road works affecting my part of SE London I entrusted Waze with the journey, it took me along Cold Blow Lane (IYKYK) and very close to "The Den", there was already a lot of locals heading towards the ground, I deduced a lunchtime kick off "I wonder who against" I mused, the answer came soon after. I had a subconscious wave of nausea then I consciously noticed a car with 4 or 5 persons wearing yellow and green, their car was a lovely shade of blue, Ipswich blue. I can't criticise or mock, my car is green, a dirty brownish green, but green nonetheless.

A13 & M25 were running smoothly but A12 had some issues, a sub 2 hour journey took 2:30, no drama, unlike Preston (H) 3 seasons ago same journey took 4 or 5 hours

Parked up, rang oldest male offspring to announce arrival in Ipswich & met up with another London based town fan.
Me, I've got an excuse for being a town fan, I grew ip in Ipswich, this fella born & bred in Croydon, wasn't going to games because he didn't know any other Town fans. My son & i met him on the train home from Brighton 2 seasons ago. He's now increasing his attendance as much as his job will allow (he works unsociable hours)

Approaching PR the queues looked ominous but I got in easily, even had time for a quick drink & bslti pie

Got to my seat, it was occupied by a child, whose father apologised and moved to his seat... behind the father, I immediately offered to swap so father & son could dit side by side.

The game?
Well I enjoyed it, seemed like a decent atmosphere and I can't fault the team. Was it a perfect performance? No, but it's 3 points on the board.
The Enciso who played today is not the lad we had on loan, he's a significant upgrade.

At the final whistle I have to say I was emotional, my first home EPL win since April 2001 v Coventry - i missed most of 2001-2002 on account of being broke and / or overseas
and wasn't at Chelsea home 2 seasons ago. I told the guy next to me, assuming he'd been at said Chelsea game , he responded with "it's my first ever" (of many one hopes)

It's only one game... but there's cause for optimism.

Very interesting piece, though I got the shivers at the mention of Cold Blow Lane ( appropriately :) ), memories of 1978. Seems you had quite a day that had a happy ending. And yes, a cause for optimism at least.
