After the Lord Mayor's show 14:43 - Oct 18 with 1196 viewsRetroBlue

Ive thought about our performance yesterday against Man City. Yes their club has a lit to answer re their financial conduct etc. But thise MC players yesterday are a cut above all said aby done and are a largely settled squad. Our lads competed so well against them, band were far from lambs to the slaughter. For all their manager's ckaims of " totally controlling the game", It wasnt us wanting the final whistle , or needing the officials to give thrm every advantage with fouls given znd offside calls thst weren't to take the pressure off them in thst last 15-20mins.

I have such a glowing pride in our team today, and the feeling thst we are only going to get better. We have class in our squad and a nanager that displays exoerience at this level. I loved the way we adapted yesterday against ibe if the best. Take Haaland out of their side and what else did they have? Defence/ defending shouldn't be seen as a dirty word. Its an art form just as much as attack, never more exemplified than by Diop's reading of the game. He was, for me, outstanding.

I cant wait for our next game, and have genuine positivity for our season. I think the players will have gained so much from yesterday's gsme. The result is almost immaterial.

I agree. For some reason I feel more pleased with the performance than I feel disappointed at the result. We’ll be ok this season.

It might be that Haaland IS out of their side before too long, if you get my meaning. Totally agree about Diop, I made him my MOM in an after match post over on the site. Not a fan of " Low Blocks "/ Mass defending, though I understand why it happens in certain matches. We were much better when we gave it a go in the second half, as Diop himself pointed out in his interview on site. Of course, that might have been because we gave ourselves a first half platform to build on.

I also agree about Diop whom I thought showed his experience and ability yesterday. It was one of the first games I have missed all season live as am with family in America but did, however, manage to watch the game live on TV.
City are full of internationals some of which cost in excess of £100m which is far out of our league. However, we have our all and without Haarland they would not be so effective. Their fans were moaning about the 12 minutes of stoppage time were concerned we were capable of getting an equaliser - which could have happened. Looking at an Instagram clip you could seethe glee in the players faces coming off after the match.
We can avoid relegation, providing we play within our means and clearly GON has the right balanced approach. Important we win on Friday which will be viewed again from the USA.

This is very much how I feel. The point about settled squad is very important. We have seen a considerable churn of players and whether people like it or not, it’ll take time for the team to fully integrate. It did for KMs teams and it will now.

These by our standards might be expensive players but they are human beings so will take differing lengths of time feel comfortable in the area, the club and the team. I believe if they continue to approach games in the manner they have to date we will see a lot more from them as the season progresses.

The potential and quality of some of our players is outrageous compared to two seasons ago. They’re never going to match MC, Chelsea or Arsenal, but well done to GON for setting them up in a way that had Man City fans calling for the final whistle, despite what their annoying, smug manager might have to say.
