I can remember watching that televised ascent of The Old Man of Hoy (I think it got included on 'World of Sport' as a 'let's see how Joe Brown is getting on' feature every quarter of an hour or so. I was about twelve at the time and certainly did not have the attention span to keep up with it but I was impressed with the challenge and the dexterity. For a climber to reach eighty nine years of age is an achievement in itself, but with his list of summits and traverses seems nigh on impossible.
