At £4000 a month the care homes should have more than enough to pay for PPE.

They are a business to be fair and if they have extra costs to keep their staff and residents safe then they are of course going to pass that on to their customers, the bill sent 6 weeks after their relative passed is in excusable however

£4,000 a month? Think they can afford some PPE, no matter how much it costs. Just interested in profits.

Far too man care homes in the UK are now owned by the private equity industry. It's reasonable to assume that such companies are not primarily motivated by the wellbeing of the residents as much as the large sums of money they can get paid.

At the same time, the decision to move people out of hospital into care homes, without testing, has undoubtedly increased the mortality rate in them.

Yes, like any other business, on the flip side if you can afford £1k per week for care you can afford to pay for protection for you and staff.

I think you'll fund even the cheapest care homes in the UK charge £1000 a week. I know a lot of people in care homes and its normally £60k-£70k and they aren't rich people they are using savings and sold their property to pay for it.

Why are you surprised? They are privately owned. Profit is the first and last consideration.

I'm not sure the private equity influence has been important. In other countries where care homes have been run for profit, there have been a predictable number of scandals as unscrupulous owners try to make a profit. in the UK, they have certainly attracted a number of property-oriented cowboys who see them as an opportunity to make a fast buck, backed by a property asset, especially given the ultra low interest rates in force over the last 10 years.
