Archant in trouble on 13:00 - Aug 29 with 743 views | Steve_M | Local newspapers have not been able to cope with the loss of classified adverts, many have large pension deficits too and a decline in sales and advertising merely compounds that. I agree with you on Archant, the downgrading of their regional coverage is marked - is depressing To think back to the Star and EADT of my youth compared with their current incarnations - and yet this is going to make what remains even worse.

Archant in trouble on 13:09 - Aug 29 with 716 views | uefacup81 | Not helped by the attitudes of those in charge, either. I wrote to the Editor of the EDP last year bemoaning the shift in coverage towards sensational rubbish, the increase in poorly-disguised advertorials, and the reliance on deliberately-controversial columnists in order to try and generate outrage-induced clicks. All I got back in response was an arrogant and aggressive response along the lines of 'I'm right, you're wrong, suck it up'. If you look at the editor's Twitter feed (David Powles) you'll see he's definitely not a fan of criticism.
