Andy Marshall - injured at the start of 2001/02? 11:07 - Jul 2 with 583 views | ITFC_nostalgia | Does anyone remember why Keith Branaghan was on the bench for most (if not all) the games at the start of the 01/02 season? Marshall was clearly 2nd choice and came in (in)famously at Dag & Red but for instance the game before (the 3-2 loss to Charlton) it was Branaghan who was the keeper on the bench.
Andy Marshall - injured at the start of 2001/02? on 11:10 - Jul 2 with 555 views | PhilTWTD | He had a back injury which they initially felt was going to be a long-term thing, hence they signed Sereni. However, a second opinion was sought and that specialist had other ideas and in the end he was back quicker than had previously been anticipated.

Thanks Phil, it seems handy he was ready to play for that D&R match but not for the ones before.

The D&R game back in the FA Cup in January? If so, Marshall was fit well before then but Sereni was first choice after his signing in August. Sereni then asked to be rested for the D&R (as apparently the 'norm' in Italy at that time). Burley obliged and dropped him for Marshall. Keith Branagan remained number 2 throughout. I think there were concerns over a shoulder injury he was carrying, that ultimately ended his career at the end of the season. [Post edited 2 Jul 2021 13:46]
