Mr. Paul Mariner 19:12 - Jul 10 with 461 viewsGrimReaper66

I grew up in the seventies/eighties. I was fortunate enough to see games that we dominated and where we won trophies that were respected across Europe. I remember as a 10 year old, kicking a ball against the shed pretending that I was Trevor Whymark or David Johnson scoring a goal for my beloved team. I added Paul Mariner to the awesome shed scoring team in 1976 and he came very close to dispatching my hero Kevin Beattie as my favourite player. I will be honest, I did shed a tear to hear that Paul passed away. I was fortunate enough to be at Wembley behind the goal (on a school trip), when he scored the goal to take England to the World Cup in 1982. It really makes you realise your own mortality when your heroes leave you. RIP Paul, you gave me so many good memories and you will never be forgotten by me.

It always hurts when the good ones go so early.

Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?

As testimony as to how good he was this is what a WoTB 'particpant' had to say earlier today:

''Very sad….great player in what I have to say was a great side R.I.P.''

Poll: Hypothetically who would you prefer as your main striker:
