And he was right. That was, on the whole, a pretty poor performance, not that different from all the other matches I’ve seen this season (I did miss Bolton, luckily enough). We’re still disjointed and failing to pass through central midfield. Too many long balls hit into vague wide areas/corners, or even Celina, which can’t be the best use of him. In the first half, Wednesday were comfortably in control. As usual, we had a 10-15m period playing with some urgency after half time but that really was it. Also as usual, we ended up singing about the referee (who wasn’t great, but not the reason we play badly). The positives: Donacien was solid and is a good news story, great to see El Miz, who made a few neat touches. Bonne’s goal was fantastic — you could see him planning it for a few seconds before nabbing the ball. The reaction to the goal was fun, as was hearing the Celina song. I’m sure it will “come good” — hard not to with this squad — but it’s painful watching and taking too long. Sunderland and Wigan won again today — we’re 12 points behind them and it’s not even October. |  |
