No more excuses 07:29 - Feb 11 with 495 views | bluelagos | https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/feb/11/cressida-dick-could-not-solve-th An excellent summary on some of the failings within the Met. Interesting that even those who habitually defend the police, claiming the many cases highlighted are the odd 'bad apple' seem to be grasping that the issues are far deeper, more cultural and that fundamental change is overdue. So, what's to be done? How do you change an organisation where so many of it's members adopt the mafia like approach of "omerta". Where those brave enough to highlight misconduct by colleagues are shunned rather than welcomed....

No more excuses on 08:16 - Feb 11 with 441 views | DanTheMan | Speaking after the revelations that two male officers had taken pictures of the scene where sisters Nicole Smallman and Bibaa Henry lay fatally stabbed, Dick’s apology was so heavily qualified as to be no apology at all. “If those officers’ actions have added to the family’s unimaginable distress then I apologise,” she said. I've never seen this quote, what a wild take that is.

Yep, good riddance. Those who deny there is an issue or who seek to minimise it are, imho, very much part of the problem. When they are random anonymous posters on messageboards it doesn't really matter. When they are leading the organisation in question, then it very much matters...

No more excuses on 08:46 - Feb 11 with 404 views | Guthrum | That's the key point - it needs someone (or a commission) from outside to create effective change. Not a candidate - however worthy - promoted from within the Met. That is if the force is not to be pretty much dissolved and restructured, as the RUC were.

Yes, the RUC - and the reasons that the PSNI had to be created from scratch - is an instructive parallel here. A police force that has lost the trust of a large part of the community it is meant to serve can not function properly. Dick going is a start but not in itself anywhere near enough.
