I was delighted when we signed Fraser. A player on paper that scored and created and was amongst the best in the division. Little did we know we had no idea how to utilise him and he was brought in as he was available not because he was part of a plan. I have no doubt that McKenna will have identified the exact type of players he wants to slot perfectly into his system. We will have looked at their data, chances created, ball retention, dribbles, yards covered and how often they’ve been available over the last few years and this will all feed in to the machine along with resale value, career projection and so on. And we will go out and get these players. We needed a Morsy. We needed a Walton. But the rest were good players that on paper walked into the side without necessarily knowing what we wanted the side to achieve. This season summer with the backing we have is massively exciting. Kieran will know what he wants and we will end up with the players that are proven and will be the real deal of that I’m convinced rather than just grabbing what loot we can and working out how to use it later. | |
