We all have high expectations. We need to do better than last year and the spotlight is on us and our young manager.
It's second album syndrome and we know it. So how about a list of second albums that have really cut the mustard?
I'll start off with:
Led Zeppelin II Nevermind - Nirvana Everybody Knows This is Nowhere - Neil Young It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back - Public Enemy The Bends - Radiohead
This year it’s their manager. Their CEO. Transfer targets brought in by this manager. It’s year one.
Last year Ashton started on 1 June. Cook was already in place. Ashton and Gamechanger suggested Cook would have been their choice but that was just the public backing you’d expect.
What could Ashton do? Just back Cook with the targets he identified and it turned out he was a kid in a sweet shop signing anyone he could and worrying how to fit them in later.
As far as I’m concerned last season was just something to get through that allowed Ashton and Gamechanger to see all that was wrong at the club, all that was or could be right and have a free hit and getting a quality young manager in and working on a settled enough squad for this season.
It begins now.
