Card details on recorded line 09:54 - May 7 with 779 viewsZx1988

One for the legal/data protection bods here:

I'm in the middle of a court claim against a home improvement firm and have just discovered, from phone call recordings released as part of the 'discovery' process, that card details taken over the phone for a payment were recorded in full, with no pausing of the recording or masking of the details.

The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard 2016 says that those recording calls must make efforts to ensure that CV2 numbers are not recorded

If it's happened on my call, I can only assume that it's happened on others. How much of a big deal is something like this?

Just a quick bump for this - my mistake for posting it in the run-up to a match!

More generally, I assume the issues with respect to security are greater the smaller the business because they may not have the resources, or knowledge, to do it properly.

It might be worth seeing if the information commissioner (ICO) has done anything on this. Also, which uk the consumer group might be somewhere to look but you'll need to subscribe for detailed information - I've recently used them for some UK legal advice, much cheaper than a solicitor!
