I can't remember the last time I was as excited for pre-season.
I have no doubt the ownership will be looking for quality rather than quantity. Not only is a squad place sacred now but Ashton said as much about the January recruitment. 'Kieran only wants players that will improve the side'.
It also makes sense to front load the 3 year FFP period for a number of reasons so I think we will be looking at 4, 5 or 6 players that are going to be better than what we have and given what we achieved recruitment wise in League One we have every reason to be metaphorically drooling. I'd imagine we will be paying the biggest fees in the Championship outside of the relegated Premier League clubs or anyone prepared to spend £4m to replace a player they've just shifted for £15m.
Which is going to make the off season even longer. Transfer rumours are painful enough, let alone now when we know not much gets out of the club and how unlikely they are to break outside of TWTD or EADT on the morning of the deal.
We now have a very successful and very clear way of playing. The talent we identify is going to be young, athletic, technically gifted, intelligent, superb with the ball at their feet, with a high ceiling for improvement and resale. Players that are most likely even better than the likes of Davis and Broadhead, given our significantly increased recruitment power.
Which is why being 'linked' to projects from League One, ex-players that weren't even all that in 2016, players who have the passing ability of a drunk Toto Nsiala, players who have failed at Scottish relegation fodder, Michael Chopra's brother-in-law, a man who once shared a lift with Simon Clegg and, at least three times a day, David McGoldrick is going to be excruciatingly painful here, on Twitter, on 'ITK' sites and so on. It's like some people haven't heard Evans handed the club over to the competent, funded and ambitious.
No doubt Phil has a 'told there's nothing in it' out of office reply set up on his DM's.
