This is a rather lovely piece on being a fan 16:21 - May 18 with 779 viewsSteve_M

Partly about being a fan at a distance but also the emotions the game brings.

The end of the Charlton match at PR was largely spent trying to find out if Wendesday had lost at Burton.

Yeah that hits home. For me, Exeter game was a little odd. My U13s kicked off that day at 10am, the super blues at 9am. Going through warm-ups in the pouring rain with the kids while checking my phone. 1-0, 2-0, 3-0… and relax. A strange sense of calm washed over me. Not immediate elation , more relief. The boys then won again later that day to make the championship game Sunday. Before that, team swimming at the hotel, then out for dinner with the parents. No real chance to savor the match reports and goals on twitter. One of the dads knows his “soccer” and congratulated me with a hand shake before the championship game. Felt good. Then we play a team we haven’t beaten in four years. It’s going to be tough. Rain still pouring. We scrape out a 1-0 win, illy Jr with the winner. Not a great goal but he was in the right place to smash home from 10 yards after a corner wasn’t cleared. Don’t know who was scripting the weekend but I was crying on the drive home, overcome with it all. Don’t recall when the Town in 25 was released (maybe the Monday) but watching that for the first time - especially the crying man in the crowd - set me off all over again.
The beautiful game innit.

Exeter was an odd game.

I was confident but thought it would be a bit edgy, but Exeter were hopeless and the goals just kept coming. The second half was a bit of a non-event haha

TBF to them Exeter were in the game until our second goal and we were a bit nervy early on. The second and third goals being so close together just ook all the pressure off and they collapsed.

Yea agreed early on, our passing was a bit off, but nafter the first goal, the goals were fairly evenly spaced out after that?

I was hoping for more than 6 but we seemed to ease off a lot second half.
