I am wondering why with a good number of them their name is a "glorification" for want of a better word of the city they represent. Examples include Udinese for Udine, Salernitana for Salerno and Fiorentina for Firenze (Florence). Does anyone know why?

A quick Google search shows Udinese and Salernitana refer to the name for the natives of the cities of Udine and Salerno respectively.
Fiorentina is a girls name meaning to blossom or bloom. Edit: it also refers to a style of cooking that originated in Firenze (Florence). Probably more relevant.
So there you go.
