Maybe he was not top choice. Gallagher on a permanent at 28 may have been preferable in terms of style but if were to go up, would he have been what we wanted or would we be looking further up the food chain. Don’t think Stansfield on a permanent was ever a runner and a loan may have seemed worthless to the player and Fulham as he seemed happy, getting games, and scoring goals anyway,
Now to Moore - If he signs . Some on here have been a little disparaging, others questioning if he will ruin our style and we will have to lump it up to him. Let's look at this:
Firstly, this is not the same player we all saw in his 11 (count them - eleven) sub appearances for Town 7 or 8 years ago. That player was way out of his depth. 30+ internationals and 12 goals for a decent Wales team, bags of L1 and Championship goals at Rotheram, Barnsley, Wigan, Cardiff and Bournemouth plus a few in the Premier League for Bournemouth show he is much, much better than that.
On top of knowing where the goal is, from what I have seen over the years he is more than capable of holding the ball up whether it is a long ball or something when he comes short to receive it to his feet. He is a willing runner down the channels and a massive threat at set pieces (I think that despite our set piece record improving over the last 18 months, aerially we don’t get the return we should). In addition, we do get lots of crosess in from wide positions via Davis and Burns which Moore should thrive on.
Perhaps on the down side, he will not provide that endless running that Hirst can but if the strategy is 60-70 mins Moore with 20/30 mins Al Hamadi then surely Moore could be instructed to put in all his efforts early on. Remember, it's not until this season that Hirst could regulsrly last beyond 70 minutes himself.
Again, if he signs, we should be very happy. He strengthens our squad quite considerably imho. |  |
