A minor tweak which might help in situations like yesterday. 10:05 - Aug 18 with 1064 views | Guthrum | Perhaps bringing forward the 60-70 minute changes to 50-60. An extra injection of energy from Harness and Taylor arriving at about the time Burns went off might have dirupted Liverpool enough they didn't get that opening for the goal. If one of those had been in Alexander-Arnold's face, he might not have been able to get the through-ball away. All fine margins and the timing of Burns' injuiry complicated matters. I'm sure it's something McKenna and team will be analysing to fine-tune our ability to cope with the best teams.

If he's not quick enough then it's a bad signing. Davis has a great engine but he's human. We may see his body still getting up and down the pitch come 70 minutes but he was knackered and couldn't keep up. That's natural. But a big part of our issues was he was spent.

When you're having to deal with one of the best and cleverest attacking players in the country, it's going to take extra effort, both physical and mental. Which is going to wear Davis down faster. Fortunately he won't be facing Salah every week.

He won't but most prem sides have two flying wingers/right side players. It's pretty much the norm

Indeed, but a lot of them won't be of Salah's quality, guile and experience. Perhaps more within Davis/Townsend's reach to deal with for 90+ minutes between them. I'm not sure we can draw too many conclusions regarding tactics and capabilities from these first couple of games, given they include probably the toughest fixture on anyone's calendar (ManC A), plus another in the top six or so.

Such a big ask in the twilight of his career to make this step up .

I feel the problem second half was more from midfield leaving Leif an uphill task ,Trent AA moving further up field left us out numbered with a tired Massimo strugling. [Post edited 18 Aug 2024 10:52]

I do think he's the one who will be making way for Phillips in a couple of weeks.

I think so too and that's in no way a disrespect to Mass. I thought second half the game was crying out for someone of Phillips' quality but I can understand why KM didn't use him and it also gave Taylor a run out. Phillips' time will come. Possible starter against Fulham? Was impressed with Harness too.

Notice that the evergreen James Milner usually just comes on for the last 20 minutes or so , that sort of role will suit Mass going forward.
