We have struggled against Everton, Forest and Palace. The 3 teams with the least quality. But there work effort was better than ours and got them the points. In my eyes we need to take most of our points against the better football teams. Which makes the draws against Fulham, Villa and Man United so much more painful.
Against these workmanlike teams we need much more energy than the starting X1 had last night. Szmodics and Taylor should be deployed. In fact in those games I'd be tempted to play narrower and not play the RM and have Taylor in a 3 man CM. It was clear as day we were out battled most of the match. I wouldn't necessarily say out worked us, more out muscled us. Delap aside it looked men against boys in physical duels. The speed and physicality of this league is a huge step that unfortunately not every player has been able to make.
For the first time I don't see us getting out of the bottom three, attracting players in the January window when relegation looks likely will be difficult. |  | | |
