So, how do we turn the “fine margins” the other way? 18:42 - Mar 8 with 739 viewsIllinoisblue

Set pieces. Newly promoted team with one of the weakest squads in the league have to make the most of corners and free kicks. We’ve been largely terrible at both all season. Two moments today summed us up. Corner first half Enciso to Davis, which to be fair did show a little invention, but Davis hesitates then balloons his shot over. Then right at the end, Phillips with a chance to put the ball in the box. Sends it flying out of touch. Apparently we have an actual set piece coach on the payroll. Who knew?

Recruitment.
#1 Immediately - as in today, right now - terminate the agreement with goalkeeper.com. The only future contact with them should be legal action over whatever magic beans of data they sold us for the Muric deal.

# 2. How hard is it to expand scouting into Europe and Africa? Shopping only in the “Lightweight domestic 20m wingers” shop hasn’t worked so well .

Recruitment, recruitment, recruitment.

You'd like to think behind the scenes we've been making some inroads with expanding our scouting network beyond this country and whoever an agent rings us up about and can flex it a bit in the summer.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

We need to play Townsend for starters. We need a more defensive player in left back roll. If Axel was fit playing him and Townsend at full backs would be very useful to our wingers. I’d also play Burgess ahead of Greaves and give Philogene a chance to play on his favorite side.
This would be first steps towards improving current status.

We buy players we can improve and we do better next time - this is what we are doing.

Player development is not linear and isn’t always so fast, many, me included had thought we’d be a second half team but the incremental growth hasn’t been fast enough.

In the here and now, the midfield hasn’t been strong or athletic enough nor has L10, R10 or RW and they certainly haven’t contributed enough assists or goals. Defensively, LCB, RB/CB hybrid and GK have all been problem areas for different reasons at different times and led to goals conceded almost every game.

Not enough of the players have been able to take the jump required. This is the reality. I don’t blame them or anyone else, I really like the players and the team and I think many will make a massive contribution to championship title challenge next year. I don’t think recruitment was poor, the squad started at a significant disadvantage to others to compete fully in the league, we assume MA literally threw the sink at it and took the best players available at fees and wages we could manage, no issues here.
