Statistical comparison with last 2 Premier League seasons 09:36 - Aug 7 with 13983 viewsNthsuffolkblue

Cut-and-pasted from the end of my last Championship thread so I can add a reply with the first two par results ...

In preparation for a new thread for next season now that the teams are all known:

2000/01
Leeds - replaced by Brighton
Sunderland - Bournemouth
Charlton - Palace
Middlesbrough - Wolves
Derby - Fulham
Coventry - Brentford
Bradford - Forest

2001/02
Leeds - replaced by Man City
Blackburn - Brighton
Middlesbrough - Bournemouth
Charlton - Palace
Bolton - Wolves
Sunderland - Brentford
Derby - Forest

Quite remarkable to think that the last time we played Man City in the Premier League, they got relegated. The last two times we played Leeds in it, they finished 4th and then 5th. Much has stayed the same about it but much has changed too. I will relaunch this as a new thread after the fixtures come out.

First match, Liverpool (H), par scores:
2000/01 1-1

2001/02 0-6 defeat

A par with that first season would be nice. Hoping for at least better than the second season result.

I think we played ok that day on the 6-0. Everything they touched flew in the net. Michael touched the ball 3 or 4 times and walked away with 2 or 3 goals.
From memory I think we had several big chances, but it wasn't out day.

I don't recall that one especially but remember the 5-0 defeat away. We got what we deserved that day. We needed a win to stand any chance of staying up if I recall correctly.

We played ok until half-time, Sixto came really close to equalising late in the half only for Liverpool to go down the other end and make it 0-2 (Heskey I think).

We were poor second half, couldn't keep the ball and just got picked off time and time again. Burley got it wrong when Jamma (?) went off injured in the first-half, brought on Armstrong rather than Magilton and we only gained any control when the latter finally came on late in the game - it was 0-5 by then.

2000/01 1-1
Behind the par: Pts -1, GF -1, GD -2

Next match Man City (A) par score 3-2 win!

2001/02 0-6 defeat
Ahead of par: Pts 0, GF 0, GD +4

Next match Man City (A) replacing Leeds par score 0-2 defeat!

Definitely going to be behind the par with that first season (and realistically with that second one too). Hoping for a performance like our first half today and to at least give Citeh a fright!

This is proving a little trickier trying to do 2 comparisons at once but I will try to carry on!

2000/01
Behind the par: Pts -3, GF -2, GD -5

Next match Brighton (A) replacing Leeds par score 2-1 win.

2001/02
Also behind par now: Pts -2, GF +1, GD +2

Next match Brighton (A) replacing Blackburn par score 2-1 defeat.

Behind the par on both seasons for now but am confident we will make it up on that second season before too long.
