Long time lurker but first time poster here, but needed to vent and address a situation at the Blackburn game last night. Completely appreciate that last night was an awful game of football, and the odd disgruntled comment is part of being at the game. But three older blokes sat behind us were relentless from the start, calling Walton a c unit from about the 5th minute. I get you’ll always have this type of character at a game, but what stepped the line was quite frankly racist language directed towards a group of Blackburn fans in the corner during the first half. Visible shock from the fans that heard it around us. Really thought this aspect of the game has been wiped out, and i left last night feeling pretty embarrassed that these type of supporters are among us. I didn’t report it at the time, but have emailed the club to notify them as it’s an embarrassment to the club having this type of fan at games. Do better. [Post edited 3 Dec 9:52]

So called fans calling players c@nts is bad enough, but using racist language is another.
It's a worrying sign of the times especially when farage et al are normalising this and saying "it's not too bad".
Well done for reporting this to the club. It will be difficult for them to take any action, but puts it on their radar.

We've attracted some right idiots ever since the success came back. At QPR there were a few being really unpleasant with the stewards.

Yeah we’ve passed on ours and where they were stood too. I don’t expect much to come of it but didn’t sit right with me at all some of the slurs they were saying. | | | |

I'm embarrassed that I didn't challenge it at the time as my daughter was clearly shocked by what she heard. She'd never heard the 'p word' used before. However, it wasn't clear when I turned around who had actually said it. Although the voice sounded like the same idiot who had been on the players backs from kick off. His favourite refrain seemed to be 'who to' when a pass went astray.

Spot on with the bloke you think it was. Unfortunately he did reappear about 15 minutes into the second half but was much quieter so hope someone had a word. Judging by your description I think you may have been stood directly in front of us, and one of my first thoughts was how is someone using that language when there are so many younger teenage fans around, it creates a toxic environment. Sad to hear there were some amongst you that still haven't got the brain cells to understand we're all humans.
I too also reported two fans at another hone game for us a few weeks back. Disgusting behaviour and no need for it. Also was our own player and he was quickly set upon by those around him thankfully.
ALWAYS speak up. Doesn't matter if its one of your own.
Thankfully there were plenty of empty seats for me to move myself and my kid.
Rovers have a text line that circulates or can go through contact email at the club as you can your own.

I wouldn’t beat yourself up for not challenging it. It’s one thing for people to say that you should have done it from the comfort of their sofa, but you have no idea what these guys were on. Your own safety is paramount.

100% this. It’s about time racism was made unacceptable/embarrassing again. They always used to have to hide in the shadows, but now they can sit in the Houses of Parliament, write for mainstream newspapers and host shows on national TV. |  |
