Azor and Taylor recovering from minor operations and we have no midfielders of Premier quality to speak of . Yes I'm sure we are working hard to get some quality in but it was a real reminder failure to put this right and we all know whats going to happen! [Post edited 30 Jul 7:20]

Last 30 wasnt really relevent after the subs other than mins. Possibly a disservice to Nunez who is a good midfielder and probably his more natural position. He would be ahead of Taylor for me. Humphreys was actually really good last night. I don't see him being with us for the season but he was decent. Of course we need some too midfielders to compete at the level.

Im ok with that but was expecting a few weeks before that we would look a bit more recognisable as a team. I hadn’t appreciated how long it would take for Matusiwa and Taylor to recover. The result is craziness in CM with all no familiarity being built in that area of the pitch. As it goes, good fitness workout for many players. GON seeing a few players in secondary positions which might help him decide whether say Ben J really is PL back up LB quality or not (please no), whether Nunez is say P2 P3 or P4 CM, or whether in fact Cam Humphries should be P4. Akpom looked happier in Striker role than he ever did 10, SWE looked way more involved as a 10 than we ever did as a RW player!

Well for me however we dress it up we are paper thin in midfield and if we go into the first few games like this we risk falling behind and needing to play catch up , for me this would be a recipe for disaster.

Remember this was a Spanish side who escaped relegation on goal difference. We had no cutting edge whatsoever a lot of work required. I also understand that key players unavailable but they maybe during the coming season at times.
