EFL Cup as the Season-Opener

I only just realised that the EFL Cup is starting the EFL season this weekend.

I think I quite like the idea as a curtain-raiser, especially with the fact that it's opening weekend hopefully making for higher attendances.

On the other hand, I can see the attraction of it being the season's first midweek game under the lights.

Thoughts?
