Arsenal, long-balls and VAR 18:57 - Mar 8 with 839 views | NorthLondonBlue2 | Went to watch Arsenal v West Ham yesterday, my last Town game being against Oxford Utd. Obviously, the gulf in class is enormous - some of the skill on display by the Arsenal players was breathtaking, dribbling, tackling, passing moves. Striking also, that Arteta has told the team to play the ball out from the back, which was really welcome to see. I don't know how many times we pump up a long ball, in hope of retaining possession but almost always losing it, whereas bringing the ball forward from the back seems to keep it for longer. I think Leno kicked it long perhaps 2-3 times in total. Of course, that requires full-backs, and a goalkeeper to have the skill to deal with on-rushing strikers - there were some close moments - but it was much better to watch than hoofball. Good to see Cresswell continue in the PL, even if he was pretty anonymous. I think we'd be toast in the PL atm, but it's odd to see our former players settling in so easily at that level. And VAR? While it came to Arsenal's rescue to award a wrong-disallowed goal for offside, it absolutely killed the moment. It's very odd to watch players waiting for the decision in the centre circle jumping around in celebration. That said, judging by the highlights, surely VAR would have awarded Town a penalty against Coventry yesterday? Anyway, | | | | |
