Some possibly worrying numbers from Iran 11:49 - Mar 25 with 579 viewsStokieBlue

The usual caveats apply that numbers around C-19 are a bit all over the place at the moment but this is the first time I've seen numbers like these:

"Spokesman for Iran’s health ministry also announced 143 deaths in the same period raising the total number of deaths to 2,077.

Kiyanoosh Jahanpoor, Iranian health ministry spokesman said 68 % of the deaths are above 60 years old, 32 % are under 60."

That's a much larger amount of under 60's than anywhere else in the world is reporting so it could be the result of some inaccuracies.

Iran's population age profile is, like much of the Middle East, heavily skewed towards younger agegroups. Only about 7.4% are aged 55-64, 5.5% 65+ (2018 figures). So there will inevitably be a higher proportion of U60s among the dead. Indeed, that implies a very heavy toll of the older age-bracket.

It is worth reminding everybody (not aimed at you Stokie) that younger people are not immune to Covid-19, just they are generally stronger, healthier and less likely to die in places with a highly-developed medical care system.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?
