bought a car question 18:52 - Aug 26 with 686 views

I bought a car (thanks for the advice on Civics - got one!) and have been sent this document saying 'this document is not proof of ownership'. Is this the log book thingy? I'm confused because it says 'how to fill in your V5C registration certificate (log book)'

Many thanks and I have googled this, but don;t understand the results.

If it's the V5C then it's the car's log book, yes.

But the person [and address] named on that is just the registered keeper of the vehicle and not necessarily the owner.

Edit: you will have some form of receipt for the purchase though naturally.

It really is for records of where the motor is kept rather than much else.

I suppose an example might be if I were going away for several months and no longer had an address here and my car was left with you then legally it would need to be registered there.

It really is for records of where the motor is kept rather than much else. I suppose an example might be if I were going away for several months and no longer had an address here and my car was left with you then legally it would need to be registered there.
