Lekki is a couple of miles away from my last home in Lagos. Used to ride through on a Sunday on my way to the beach.

Whilst there is often wild speculation/rumour in situations like this, when Amnesty International are speaking up, you know the evidence is strong.

Whether anything is actually done, wouldnt be holding my breath. You can disband the police unit but are you going to disband the army?

One of my first obervations in Lagos, 20 years ago upon arrival and seeing the huge inequalities and the brutality of the police and the endemic theft from the corrupt elite was why had there never been a revolution. I was told how people remembered the military coups and how ordinary people were killed if/when they spoke out. How they were fearful of retribution.

Just maybe,,just maybe they are finding their voice....

Was there also a memory from the attempt at secession by Biafra, and the way that ended?

That was a funny one as there was very little lingering ill will considering the numbers who were killed / starved. So not really, considering.

My first steward was a Biafran who told the story how he was captured during the war in Lagos and was marched along with other PoWs to what he assumed was his death. He was the last in line and escaped. He returned to his Yoruba boss where he was hidden for 3 years until the end of the war.

Just watching the news now, glad to see some publicity to this increasingly escalating situation.
