How would the world be different if it wasn't for Rory Bremner? 09:43 - Dec 30 with 403 viewsGeoffSentence

It sounds absolutely mad but according to information in the national archives Rory Bremner may have accidentally changed the course of history.

In 1993 a bunch of Tory MPs were intent on disrupting John Major's government with the end goal of getting the UK out of Europe.

At the same time Rory Bremner had a new show coming up and decided to test his impression of John Major on some tory MPs, which included a bunch in this eurosceptic group. He called them up, pretended to be John Major and asked for their support. They were taken in, agreed to support him and backed down.

Wonder what would have happened if he hadn't made those calls or he had been rumbled. Out of Europe a generation earlier? Early general election and Tony Blair (possibly even John Smith) elected as PM several years earlier?

Anyway, this is clearly the way forward in politics. Anyone know someone who can do a good impression of Carrie Symonds or Dominic Cummings who could persuade Boris Johnson to the light side?
