QAnon is such a hackneyed mish-mash of cobbled together bizarre theories and concepts - many going back way before the dawn of the internet - that I'm still convinced it was originally a joke by someone on 4Chan which got taken over and got out of hand. |  |

It was. The whole insider thing was a played out joke, QAnon wasn't the first one. As the article mentions, there was FBIAnon but there were also ones like CIAAnon and I'm fairly sure about CIA based one. It's not exactly uncommon for people to troll the 4Chan boards like that. This one just happened to take off. | |
