From an e-mail from We Own It: "Centene Corporation, an American health insurance giant, has been allowed to take over 49 NHS GP surgeries and practices. Last week we [We Own It] launched a campaign to take back our GP surgeries from US company Centene. Already over 40,000 of you have signed the petition. Centene shouldn’t be in charge of GP surgeries and practices. Your GP surgery could be next - wherever you live. Centene doesn’t care about your community. Even the Daily Mail has called Centene a “profit greedy American health giant". Centene made 1.8 billion dollars in profit in 2020. To them, your GP surgery is just a dot on the map, just a source of profit. In the US, Centene was sued after selling people health insurance and then failing to provide doctors or health centres to take care of them. We have a choice. In Nottingham, health authorities just turned down Centene’s bid to run NHS services. You can help stop this profit-driven company from getting its hands on our GP surgeries. In 2018, Centene abandoned a GP surgery in Harlow, Essex and forced the local health authorities to close it. With your generous support, we'll campaign hard to push the 13 Clinical Commissioning Groups involved to reverse their decisions to let Centene run 49 GP surgeries and practices." Whilst the £3.50 (or 1%) pay rise is rightly hitting the headlines, there is more to be concerned about with our NHS under this Government. Still, Paz will be happy. | |
