Sydney McLaughlin has just done a sub 51 second run over 400m… hurdles! 50.68 which is nearly a second taken off her own world record. Two seconds and 25 metres clear of the rest of the field.
For context, the 400m flat earlier tonight was won in just under 50 seconds and McLaughlins run there would’ve had her 6th but having just jumped 10 four-foot barriers on the way round. A complete freak of a performance and a time that will just never ever be beaten by anyone other than perhaps herself.
Wouldn’t say I’m a huge fan of athletics and only really watch the World Champs and the Olympics but having seen her over the years, there is something encapsulating about watching someone you know is just an absolute freak of nature. One of the most gifted athletes of all time and one of the greatest ever performances in the sport of all time in my opinion.
