All that is wrong with the world as currently modelled in one paragraph. on 06:32 - Sep 28 with 490 views | bluelagos | One thing I learned in Nigeria is that there is always someone willing to try and rip you off. Is a function of extreme poverty and raw uncontrolled /unregulated capitalism. As a wealthy foreogner, I'd pay more at the market, more for a cab, more for a drink etc. That was life and I was generally fine with that, recognising the disparity in wealth and the relative fortune I had in my life chances compared to an average Lagosian, based solely on where I was born. What turned my stomach was seeing those on rung no 2 exploiting those on rung no. 1. So a friend worked for a charity working with street children with disabilites. Some slept under flyovers, keeping safe from the rains. The local area boys whose area it was, made them pay rent or kicked them out... Appreciate the area boys lived in extreme poverty but even so, exploiting people's desperation is pretty vile stuff. [Post edited 28 Sep 2022 6:34]
