I wonder if football statisticians 'care' about the inflation of appearances, and if there's anything they can do about it.

For example, yesterday Colchester made their third substitution at 90+2, and two more at 90+8. Part of me feels this is kind of a slight on the likes of Mickey Cook, who played 600+ games for the club in the era of one sub. (Think a lower-league Mick Mills, but with just the one club.)

I wonder if in future statisticians will say things like '212 games, average 82 minutes' or whatever. Must be pretty easy to do these days. (Or is this already happening?)

Not exactly on topic but I feel the international players of past eras get a raw deal. Back in the day a 50+ capped player was a legend/household name. Nowadays a relatively ‘ordinary’ international player can expect to rack up plenty more than that.
