Ioannidis 08:12 - Sep 8 with 1820 views | Len_Brennan | I watched a Euro Nations round up show last night and saw that he scored 2, & set up the other goal (an OG) with a good first touch & nicely weighted lay off for the overlapping left back to put a dangerous ball in (sound familiar?), for Greece against Finland. The 2 he scored were a good flicked header from a corner & great awareness, speed and quick feet for a little flick over the keepers leg, when he pounced on a poor touch. He also showed well with some other touches, sharp turns, strength & shots in those highlights. He is not our player, but the reason I am bringing up the above is because he looked exactly what we want in a centre forward & I can totally see why we were prepared to pay a reported £25m for him (similar to Broja), even though most of us had never heard of him before this Summer. The club is sometimes accussed of not looking to foreign markets enough for transfers, but McKenna, Ashton & theanalytics department were out of the blocks early on this one. It's a pity he wasn't willing to take a chance on us, allegedly due to our favourites for relegation tag. Perhaps if we perform well between now & Christmas, and if Panathinaikos are out of Europe by then (!), we may have a better shot should we make another attempt in January. We know that McKenna doesn't just give up when he fails to get a player he really wants in one transfer window. Greece play against Ireland on Tuesday & then England in October, so that'll give us a better chance to have a look at him; of course other clubs will be looking at him too.

I don't know whether his reason for rejecting us was because of the "favourites for relegation" or because he had his heart set on Sporting. Maybe he or his partner want to live in one of the best cities on the planet. But the 3 Town boys could have a word with him on Tuesday and if we have a small cushion to the bottom 3 there must be a chance we could go in for him again in January.

We have a history of not giving up on targets, so wouldn’t be surprised to see another attempt in January either.
