This season I have noticed signs at the station saying Ipswich is the home of the University of Suffolk, and this may be one of the reasons, although if we stay up only one season the effect may be limited.
It seemed to help over here. Things were a lot more buoyant in the uni and around the City when the Swans were in the PL. Over a decade ago, some study suggested that being in the PL boosted the local economy by about £60 million per year and created hundreds of new jobs. Other factors also come into play of course, but it certainly doesn’t hurt. Even moreso if you have a south Asian star - their fans are nuts. We’ve seen a little bit of that with Baggot.
